Following the recent announcement in Deadline Hollywood that bestselling novelist and renowned screenwriter John Niven is to pen the screenplay for BERLIN BROMLEY I am delighted to announce that Moore’s Lore Media & Gizmo Films are now ready to begin the first round of investment to fund development.

Deadline Hollywood:

BERLIN BROMLEY is an independent feature film based on the memoir of Bertie Marshall who, in 1969, was an androgynous, gay teenager growing up next-door-but-one to David Bowie in Bromley.

A chance encounter with his famous neighbour inspires Bertie to throw off the shackles of suburban conformity and seek out others like himself.

Along the way he becomes friends with the Sex Pistols and the infamous Bromley Contingent of punk fans that includes Siouxsie Sioux, Steve Severin and Billy Idol.

When the Pistols split and his friends become famous Bertie finds himself once again lost and alone but is redeemed when his part in music history is recognised by the era’s leading historian John Savage.

The film is being co-produced by my company Moore’s Lore Media and the fabulously talented and experienced people at Gizmo Films in London whose recent credits include…

The estimated total production budget of the film is £2m / S$3.75m with a private equity portion totalling £750,000 / S$1.41m as follows:

  • Private equity inc. SEIS 50% UK Tax Relief Scheme: £150,000 / S$281,250 and/or Singapore 50% Angel Investor Tax Deduction Scheme
  • Private equity inc. EIS 30% UK Tax Relief Scheme: £600,000 / S$1,125,000 and/or Singapore 50% Angel Investor Tax Deduction Scheme

The outlook based on similar films including 24 Hour Party People (2002), Control (2007), Nowhere Boy (2009), Northern Soul (2014), and Sing Street (2016), demonstrates that scripted feature films based on musical memoirs are inexpensive to make, deliver consistent return on investment and are popular with critics and audiences alike.

The immediate opportunity is to fund the development process up to S$93,750 in return for a double equity stake plus these other benefits:

  • First equity position in recoupment waterfall with 25% premium
  • 2% equity per S$37,500 invested (max 5%)
  • 4 tickets to Asian premiere per S$37,500 invested
  • Regular email updates on production process

In the meantime, enjoy this little teaser from the author of the memoir, Berlin Bromley himself…
