Despite training as both an actor AND a journalist and telling stories professionally for over 25 years I still feel like I have so much to learn. That's one of the reasons I started my podcast 'The Business of Storytelling' last year, because it gave me the chance to sit down and pick the brains of some of Singapore's top storytellers, like Debra Soon.
Debra is the Chief Marketing Officer of Singlife, Singapore's newest insurance provider but before that she was Managing Director of Channel News Asia and Chief Customer Officer at Mediacorp. In her career she has covered stories such as the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and Lee Kuan Yew's funeral, so when it comes to storytelling few people have more to share and she shared it all with me in episode one of the series.
Following Debra I got to speak in-depth to another eight fascinating and fearless storytellers including:
Glenn Bacalso, Head of Customer Advocacy at Workday on how he finds great and diverse customer stories to tell all over the region and how he convinces them to take part.
Ilyas Sholihyn, Editor-In-Chief of Rice Media on how he manages to produce masses of multimedia content with a skeleton crew that doesn’t compromise on quality.
Mandy Wong, President of TBWA\Singapore on the role of storytelling in building brands as well as a cogent company culture.
Nikki Taylor, Director of Marketing Growth Strategy APAC at UPS on how brands are built on great stories that contribute to even better experiences, all driven by data.
Nadia Abdullah, Director of Editorial & Content for Visa on how to find fascinating stories in the most unlikely of places and make them relevant to customers everywhere.
Simon Kearney, Co-Founder & CEO of Click2View on bootstrapping a content business and how algorithms and artificial intelligence are going to change the game for all of us.
Theresa Pragasm, Head of Brand at StashAway on the importance of balancing emotional and functional storytelling when it comes to discussing money, and building trust through consistency, relevance and believability.
Zat, Editor of The Peak on adapting content for each social network's unique audience and how to turn one long story into lots of little ones.
You can catch them all in the usual places below but, wherever you watch or listen, don’t forget to like, subscribe, share and rate so that we can spread the word and help the whole world become better storytellers.
